Best practices for camping during COVID-19

  • Be sure to pack hygiene supplies such as soap, hand sanitizer, wipes, and toilet paper.
  • Pay ahead of time for contactless payment.
  • Be self-sufficient:  Downloaded maps to your phone and be prepared to have a contactless trip.
  • Set up your campsite as far away as possible from other campsites.
  • If in a public area, wear a face mask and practice physical distancing.
  • Follow the park rules. Do not go on trails marked ‘closed’ because physical distancing is likely difficult.
  • If traveling to a campsite with communal amenities, check for enhanced cleaning protocols like regular bathroom checks.
  • Camp closer to home so you avoid multiple stops at heavily trafficked areas like rest stops.
  • Consider how your trip will impact the communities you’ll pass through.
